There has been plenty of interesting news over the last few weeks in the world of campervans, so here we will take a quick look at three of the biggest stories to emerge during June.
Globecar Plug-in Hybrid Ready for Production
Dethleffs, the German manufacturer who make the Globecar campervan, confirmed in June that their plug-in hybrid version of their signature vehicle is ready for series production. Dethleffs say the Globevan e.Hybrid will be the first in a new generation of electrically powered motor-homes combining emission-free local driving with the range for longer journeys too.
The Globevan e.Hybrid has been modelled on a Ford Transit Custom and will feature drive axles powered solely by electrical power. Built with compact dimensions and comfortable equipment, it is designed to be both a daily driver and a leisure vehicle, with a rechargeable battery providing a range of a little over 30 miles on pure electric power alone. There is also a 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine to regenerate the battery once it has been depleted. Dethleffs have also included technology that can regenerate energy through recuperation via braking and stepping off the accelerator.
Plug-in hybrid vehicles like the Globevan e.Hybrid can be charged via an external power source, with the range maximum provided dependant on the size of the model. The larger capacity producing 13.6 kWh of power from the liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery can provide 50km (or 31.06 miles) of pure electric, zero-emission driving.
New Date for National Outdoor Expo Announced
It was announced in June that the first ever National Outdoor Expo will be taking place at the NEC Arena in Birmingham on the weekend of 27-28 March next year. The expo will feature displays of campervan kit and tech, camping advice and stalls focused on nutrition and camping-based activities.
There will be six segments to the show, divided by camping, walking, running, climbing, eating outdoors and family excursions. Visitors will also be able to enjoy a rope walk, climbing experience, zip line and outdoor skills theatre. There are going to be talks as well as the very latest gear to try out and buy, plus celebrity adventurer Ben Fogle will be featured too. You can also expect to see Olympic rower James Cracknell and endurance runner Susie Chan.
Brands already confirmed to be attending include Adidas, Ordnance Survey, HOKA One One, Grangers and Vibram. Specialist in outdoor clothing Ellis Brigham Mountain Sports will also be present.
All New Motorhome TV Show on Sky
A new campervan-based television show started on Sky in June. The Motorhome TV programme delves into the world of motorhomes and explores the lifestyle in a fun and informative way. Motorhome models will be reviewed by MMM Magazine’s Road Test Editor, Peter Vaughan, using advanced CGI graphics to reveal the layouts of the campervans being reviewed.
There will be six episodes in total, each airing on Monday evening and repeated the following Sunday on the Showcase Sky channel.
