What’s Happening in The World of Campervans March 2021?

March had some good news and bad news for campervan fans. An exhibition was unfortunately postponed due to uncertainty over the Covid situation, but there were also a couple of exciting new vans unveiled. One campervan manufacturer is also particularly happy at the moment after scooping up a couple of nice awards for their camper designs. Read on to see what’s been happening in the world of campervans over the last month.

Laika Launch New Ecovip Motorhomes

Two new motorhomes were unveiled in March by Italian campervan manufacturer Laika. The two models join the Ecovip range, which is already Laika’s best-selling range of campers.

The low profile Ecovip L3010 is nearly seven metres long and is modelled after the 120bhp Fiat Ducato. The interior includes a transverse double bed at the rear and an L-shaped dining area at the front. The L3010 has two sofas, with the straight one measuring just over a metre long and another L-shaped sofa measuring 1.3 metres. Other features include a central kitchen that has a double sink and 140-litre fridge.

The A-class Ecovip H3119 is also just under seven metres long. It has a similar L-shaped dining area, but differs massively by having twin beds in the rear above an illuminated, heated and insulated garage that also features a water drain and double locks.

Caravan, Motorhome and Holiday Home Expo Postponed

The Caravan, Motorhome and Holiday Home Expo due to take place in September this year has been postponed until 2022. It was going to take place at the Great Yorkshire Showground, but the Hull and East Riding of Yorkshire Caravan Manufacturers Association (HERCMA) has pulled the plug due to ‘too much uncertainty’ over Covid restrictions.

The new date has been set for the weekend of 2-4 in September next year, with the trade-only days running in the following midweek.

The chairman of HERCMA, Richard Jones, said: “The safety of everyone involved is our top priority and we are not prepared to compromise the health and wellbeing of exhibitors or visitors in any way. In addition, although the event is mainly outdoor, it obviously involves visitors experiencing holiday homes indoors and we want them to be able to appreciate fully the latest models and the amazing lifestyle they offer.”

The postponed event will also change venues, with HERCMA securing a new site in Harrogate.

Volkswagen Win Caravan and Motorhome Club Design Awards

Two Volkswagen campervans won Design Awards at the Caravan and Motorhome Awards ceremony for 2021. The winning campervan designs are the California 6.1 and the Grand California, with both triumphing after receiving five-star ratings during the awards process.

The Volkswagen California 6.1 also received a five-star rating in the Fixed Roof Van Conversions Over 6 Metres category to win its second award of the ceremony.

“These ratings by the Caravan and Motorhome Club cement our vehicles as the best on the market in each category,” said Kate Thompson, the Head of Marketing at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. Thompson added that Volkswagen campervans were the ‘camper of choice for many’. Such vehicles are certainly growing in popularity as Covid restrictions mean lots of people will be seeking alternative holiday experiences such as exploring popular destinations within the UK this summer.
